Dosing Free Nitrous Acid as an Alternative Sulphide Control Technology for Pressure Sewers in Germany

نویسندگان

چکیده

Sulphide build-up in pressure sewers has been identified as the main cause for occurrence of odour and corrosion sewer systems. Despite efforts to optimize commonly used control technologies such nitrate iron salts reduce sulphide emission, continuous addition these chemicals is still required. A biocidal agent free nitrous acid can be added intermittently, less frequently, smaller quantities whilst achieving total control. So far, laboratory field studies Australia USA have successfully proven applied use this technology, exhibiting its strong effects during intermittent addition. In study, nine trials were made assess application (FNA) an alternative technology Germany. The pilot plant Berlin Water Utility Company was perform at a technical scale using supply raw sewage. FNA exposure times ranging from 5 24 h varying concentrations investigated. effectiveness treatment monitored online hydrogen (H2S) gas dissolved-sulphide sensors installed plant. Effective only possible dosing periods, with rapid resumption production <12 0.08 0.56 mg HNO2-N L−1 suggesting slight inhibitory effect. more pronounced effect observed exposed >0.29 L−1. Overall, study demonstrated that biofilms resistant inadequate develop effective strategy.

On-line Control of Magnesium Hydroxide Dosing for Sulfide Mitigation in Sewers

Magnesium hydroxide (Mg(OH)2) is commonly dosed in sewer systems to control corrosion and odour problems by preventing sulfide transfer from the liquid to the gas phase. Current dosing practices do not take the dynamics of sewage flow and sulfide production into consideration. This paper presents the development of an on-line control methodology for the optimised dosing of Mg(OH)2, based on pH ...

Alternative Sewers: A Good Option for Many Communities

STEP System conventional gravity sewer system (like those used in large towns and cities) and a centralized wastewater treatment plant is the most cost-effective and environmentally-sound way to collect, transport, and treat the wastewater. In more sparsely populated areas, where lot sizes are large and homes are spaced widely apart, onsite wastewater treatment with subsurface discharge may be ...

Alternative dosing schedules for irinotecan.

Most of the clinical experience with irinotecan (CPT-11 [Camptosar]) has been with either a weekly or an every-3-week schedule. Recent phase I trials have explored new routes and schedules of administration. One approach attempts to maximize dose frequency and intensity by giving irinotecan every 2 weeks. A phase I trial of this approach is now complete and has led to a phase II trial in patien...

Mesenchymal Stem Cells as an Alternative for Schwann Cells in Rat Spinal Cord Injury

Background: Spinal cord has a limited capacity to repair therefore, medical interventions are necessary for treatment of injuries. Transplantation of Schwann cells has shown a great promising result for spinal cord injury (SCI). However, harvesting Schwann cell has been limited due to donor morbidity and limited expansion capacity. Furthermore, accessible sources such as bone marrow stem cells ...
